Causative: have/get something done

have / get + la cosa + participio (no nombras quién)
have + persona + verbo base  /  get + persona + to + verbo

Ojo: con persona, have usa verbo base, pero get exige to.

3 Ejemplos (tócalos para oírlos)
I had my car repaired last week.
Mandé a reparar mi coche la semana pasada.
have + cosa + participio: un mecánico lo hizo, no yo. Tono neutro de servicio.
She's getting her hair cut this afternoon.
We had the plumber fix the leak.
Hicimos que el plomero arreglara la fuga.
have + persona + verbo base (fix, sin "to"). Nombras a quién.
I finally got my brother to help me move.
get + persona + to + verbo: implica que costó convencerlo.
You should have your eyes tested before driving.
They had their flight cancelled because of the storm.
Les cancelaron el vuelo por la tormenta.
Experiencia NEGATIVA: algo malo te ocurrió, no lo pediste. Misma estructura.
4 Compara
✓ Causativo (lo mandas a hacer)
I had my house painted.Contraté a alguien para pintarla.
✗ Acción propia (lo hiciste tú)
I painted my house.Tú mismo agarraste la brocha — significado distinto.
5 Tus errores típicos (hispanohablante)
⚠️
I will cut my hair tomorrow. (queriendo decir: en la peluquería)
I will have my hair cut tomorrow.
⚠️
I got my brother help me.
I got my brother to help me.
Pero con get + persona el inglés siempre pide to; solo have + persona usa el verbo desnudo (have my brother help).
6 Mini-lectura en contexto
Last month I finally decided to fix up my old apartment. First, I had the walls repainted a soft grey, and then I got an electrician to replace all the old wiring. While the work was going on, I had my laptop repaired too, since the screen had cracked. The hardest part was convincing my landlord: it took weeks to get him to approve the changes. Right in the middle of everything, I had my parking spot taken by a new tenant, which was annoying. Still, by the end I had the whole place cleaned professionally, and it looked brand new.

3 puntos clave

  1. have/get + cosa + participio = lo mandas a hacer y no importa quién (I had my car washed).
  2. Con persona: have usa verbo base, pero get exige to (have him do / get him to do).
  3. La MISMA estructura sirve para experiencias negativas que no pediste: I had my wallet stolen.
